  Collection of the Week:

  Mandatory Civil Rights Data Collection (CRDC). The CRDC collects data related to the civil rights laws' requirement that public local educational agencies (LEA) and elementary and secondary schools provide equal educational opportunity.  In the 60-day notice on the CRDC, ED proposed several changes to the collection, including improving data collection on nonbinary students and race and ethnicity and adding additional collection elements on disability and bullying. In a more recent document, ED announced that it would discontinue the collection of nonbinary data, along with several other questions that include gender identity information, such as questions about bullying and harassment based on gender identity.  However, changes to questions about race, ethnicity, and disability appear to be moving forward.

• Statement on Reginfo.gov Restoration

  Since dataindex.us relies on updates to information collection requests (ICRs) from the federal RegInfo site, we have been closely monitoring changes while the site underwent revisions.
  As of 8am on Tuesday, September 2, Reginfo.gov no longer displays the notice that had appeared since 5pm on Wednesday, August 20 (for additional context, please see our prior statement).

  We identified that access to ICR data was limited during the 13-day revision period: Details for ICRs received by OMB between August 2 and 13, which had previously been published, were no longer available and no new submission details were posted. As of today, the missing ICR data has been restored and now reflects the most recent submissions. We will continue to monitor ICR publications to ensure daily updates are maintained, and our ICR trackers at dataindex.us will be updated shortly with the recently released data.

  Feedback loops are crucial for the effective functioning of any system. The pain from touching a hot stove is a negative feedback loop, the upward growth of dividends on your savings is a positive one. Financial management, key performance indicators, supply chains have built-in feedback loops that give managers data that tell them how the operation is functioning. It helps them make decisions, large and small, that change direction or improve operations. Employee experience is another feedback loop on organizational performance. Studies on organizational performance correlate high employee experience scores with achieving organizational performance goals.

  Survey of the Week: National Prisoner Statistics Program (NPS).

  DOJ is making a number of changes to its NPS program, which collects information about people incarcerated in state and federal facilities.  Proposed changes include removing the HIV/AIDS module and conducting cognitive testing on implementing the SPD15 race and ethnicity data collection standards.  As part of the SPD15 test, DOJ plans to assess the availability of more detailed race and ethnicity information within the respondents' data systems.
